You really gotta wonder if the world has gone crazy.
Last week, the largest school district in Illinois was found by the Department of Education (DOE) to be in violation of Title IX. The District has 30 days to respond, but the upshot is, if the District doesn’t bend to the DOE’s demands, the DOE might sue them and/or pull their federal funding.
What’s the violation?
Here it is: The District refused to allow a transgender student (a 14-year-old who is biologically male, but self-identifies as a female) unrestricted access to the girls’ locker room, including shower facilities.
I am not making this up! I read the full DOE report and locker room access really is the issue.
According to the report, the District offered the student his/her own restroom/changing area, but the DOE determined that wasn’t good enough. The demand is: unfettered, unrestricted access to the girls’ locker room.
The DOE agreed that, for as long as the student has self-identified as a female, the District has bent over backwards to accommodate, even allowing the student to play on the girls’ athletic teams. However, the District put their foot down when it came to locker room accessibility. The District didn’t think it was a good idea to require 14-year-old girls to dress/undress/shower in front of and with someone who is biologically male. (The DOE report even includes a description of how 14-year-old girls at the school undress & shower.)
How unenlightened of the District to draw such a line!
The point is that the moral/sexual revolution in America continues unabated. Is Harlan safe from this kind of bureaucratic idiocy? Sadly, I don’t think so.
I feel bad for the transgender student for having rejected God’s gift of his maleness. I also feel bad that many of the adults around him are indulging his confusion and selfishness. Finally, I feel bad for the girls in his school, who are considered “haters” and “bigots” for simply wanting some privacy when they dress or shower.
If we want change, I think we have to do 2 things: pray and vote. There are candidates who share our Christian worldview. If these men & women are put in positions of authority, it will make a huge difference.
