A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of going through a program (or process) called “LifePlan.”

I would describe LifePlan as personal strategic planning. It’s something that Arlin Sorensen recently started offering to his business clients and he graciously offered it to me.

It lasted two full days and, by the end of the 2nd day, there were 22 large sheets of paper taped to the wall, plus another 8-10 supplemental sheets.

The first word that comes to mind is thorough. We covered a lot of topics, including:

Major turning points in my life

My talents or things I’m good at

Things I’m passionate about

My hopes & dreams

How I think

My core values

Activities that refresh me

Things wrong or missing in my life

How I perceive my life purpose, vision & strategies

How I use my time

Areas of my life that need attention

Things I can do to address these matters

The people who hold me accountable

LifePlan then provides a process for continually evaluating & updating my life strategies.

Perhaps the part I appreciated the most was having to articulate my life purpose. Arlin said, in his experience, few people know what their purpose is – why they exist. When people don’t know why they exist, all they do is seek one diversion after another.

Here’s what I came up with as my life purpose:

I exist to glorify God by believing in Christ, living a Christ-centered life, and proclaiming Christ to others.

LifePlan is a great tool & I highly recommend it. Thanks again to Arlin for his time & expertise.
